Visit by Students of le BUAT 2009,
Tuesday 12th May to Monday 18th May

'Le BUAT' is one of the colleges in Maule and they have just completed yet another successful visit to Scotland. This year there was a party of 32 students and 5 staff members. they travelled to Scotland and started their visit staying in Edinburgh where they saw the sights of the capital.

On Friday the party travelled to Arbroath - about 5 miles from Carnoustie - where they settled into the Red Lion Caravan Park. they also took the time to stop off at Carnoustie en route

On Saturday morning there was a visit to the Signal Tower Museum in Arbroath where they got a good insight into the history of the area circa 19th century. Here some of the students found themselves back in the classroom but did not seem to mind too much.

After that it was short hop to the Arbroath Lifeboat station where they were given a full tour of the facilities including the boats and equipment which is used by the R.N.L.I. (Royal National Lifeboat Institute). This also gave some of the students a chance to try on some of the gear worn by the crews. Anyone needing rescued?

In the afternoon the group paid a visit to Angus College in Arbroath where they were holding an open day. Here they saw the full range of courses and exactly what the college has to offer. After all that the day ended with a local fish supper, what else?

Sunday saw a walk from Arbroath to Auchmithie which is a small fishing village to the north of Arbroath. the route takes the walkers along a cliff top path with some spectacular views of the cliffs and rock formations along the way. There is also a lot of history here with the fishing heritage of the area and also stories of smuggling in some of the more secluded coves. It was a glorious day and gave some great opportunities for the photographers in the group.

Following the walk and putting the feet up for a while there was a disco held at the Red Lion in the evening which was as usual well enjoyed by all who attended. Unfortunately on Monday it was time for the party to leave for pastures new. After saying their goodbyes they headed off for Loch Lomond and the 'Bonny Banks'. It was here in the Trossachs that they spent their final day in Scotland which included a cruise on beautiful Loch Katrine. On Tuesday it was home to Maule and the end of another active visit which will hopefully be remembered fondly by those who attended.

There are more photos of the visit on our Flickr group and you can see these here.
