Carnoustie - April 2017
The first of the visits to mark our twenty fifth anniversary took place between 25th April and 2nd May.
On Tuesday 25th on arrival in Scotland by coach the French party embarked upon a two day visit to the west coat coast where they were joined by a group from Carnoustie. They visited the Isle of Arran and saw much of the amazing scenery there and on the mainland west coast. The return to Carnoustie was made via Dumfries House and the Kelpies and on arrival guests were greeted by their hosts.
On Friday following their first night in Carnoustie our guests went to St Andrews where among other sites they visited The Old Course, St Andrews Cathedral and the historic University Campus. This of course left time for some retail therapy before returning to Carnoustie. In the evening there was a Ceilidh held in the town where there was good music, great dancing and good food involved. A good evening thoroughly enjoyed by all. Photos of the night are shown below, they show Roger Jeffery (on the right), Chair of the Carnoustie Association and Michele Conte, Chair of the Maule Association making their respective welcomes and cutting a cake baked for the occasion.
Saturday saw a visit to Dundee for site seeing and shopping. Sunday was spent with hosts in Carnoustie and further afield as requested by guests.
On Monday morning the first rendezvous was at the Caledonian Golf Club in Carnoustie for some refreshments and a display of Scottish dancing and pipe music provided by Craig Weir who also played 'The Jumelage Reel' which he composed for the anniversary. Later in the morning a trip was made to MacKay's jam factory in Arbroath for - you guessed it - jam for our guests. The French Association also picked up 600 jars to grace the Christmas Market in Maule this year. The boot of the coach returning to Maule was somewhat fuller than when it arrived. In the afternoon we gathered to say out 'au revoir' before our French friends departed. Another great trip done, roll on October when Carnoustie travel to France to continue the anniversary celebrations.
Photographs taken during the visit by our French guests have been produced in a presentation by them and can be seen on the 'News' page.
